Hi Christine - so lovely to hear from you. I had a horrible feeling that this issue was a tad boring, so I'm relieved to hear you are enjoying the series. xx
An entertaining read as usual, Marg! You’ve had such an accomplished working, reading and family life!
I haven’t read any of the books you mention, but your descriptions always give me a reason to want to pick them up.
I realize now I haven’t read with purpose since college and even now am a bit random in my picks—distracted into reading news rather than novels or escapist mysteries that I later can’t remember. A course of self-improvement might be in order. Your posts about books are excellent inspiration!
I hope it doesn't come across to (other) readers that I only read literary fiction, because as you know, I read plenty of escapist books and I'm a strong believer in reading whatever you fancy.
But I do agree that reading something more meaningful takes a bit more concentration, especially at the beginning, and sometimes we have to push through our natural inclination to scroll and waste time on things that aren't good for our mental health.
It's been interesting to look at my reading history and realise that the books I remember loving have been the ones that took a bit of time to really get into.
I don’t think it comes across that way, Marg, but I think you’re right that the books that we remember are often the ones that required some thought and/or provoked it. I know that’s true for me. And it also goes for movies as well.
Just really enjoying your style of weaving your reading with your with own story, Marg .. such a pleasure .
