I've read a few of these, but the one I don't see being talked about enough is Leaving. What a fabulous book.

Marg Moon's avatar

I agree! Have you read any of her other books? Leaving is the only one in my library.

Claire Fuller's avatar

No, I haven't. I feel like I should because I loved this one so much.

Marg Moon's avatar

I worry that I’ll be disappointed. Silly, I know.

Actually, me too! This is the only book I've heard much about of hers and what if I don't like the others as much? But then I thought that about Sue Miller who I discovered via her novel Monogamy and now I'm working my way through all her others and there is lots to love.

Thanks for reminding me about Sue Miller. I have read quite a few of her books and really enjoyed them, but as you say, she’s got a whole backlist I seem to have missed.

I also make quite a few dishes from leftovers or what must be used up in my fridge. (My parents grew up on the Depression and I also didn’t see what was so great about it!). Right now I have a pound of goat cheese purchased on a whim because it was on sale. I’ve been madly googling for ideas.

That orange cake with the cream cheese frosting looks awfully good. Maybe I’ll slip in a little goat cheese!

I so enjoyed our discussion about “Sleepless” today. I intend to finish reading the book (after I get some sleep!). Thanks for all your book suggestions, recipes and everything, Marg. 🤗

You have got me thinking about interesting things to do with goat cheese! I’m intrigued with the idea of using it in sweet dishes. It pairs naturally with pears and walnuts so maybe there’s a cake or tart that includes that combination? Anyway, do let me know what you end up making.

I must say I’ve really enjoyed reading about all your ice cream experiments.

It was lovely to chat with you today. Thanks for coming.

Hi Marg,

I’ve read All My Mothers and enjoyed it.

Before You Knew My Name rings a bell or maybe it’s the cover so I’ll have to check that one on my list of read as I can’t remember.

I also read Whistler last month and as usual Ann Patchett doesn’t disappoint.

My other July read was Theo of Golden and I think it’s my favorite read so far this year.

My family of 5 kids were very used to leftovers growing up as, like your family nothing got wasted.

My husband and I also love left overs, for the convenience and also that most food tastes better the second time round. I find the younger generations don’t seem to agree with eating leftovers.

My kids were never keen on leftovers until they grew up and got mortgages! They’ve changed their tune a bit these days. I love them and agree things often taste better the second time around.

Thanks for the book rec. I’ll check it out.

I haven't read, or even heard about most of the books on your Reserve list. More to add to my growing TBR list. And I have leftover zucchini and haloumi which will be made into salad!

I spend quite a lot of time checking the library for new releases but I’m not complaining. It’s a fun hobby!

Also, I just made my first kale salad and it was quite nice.

Hi Marg, Deb tipper here. I’ve read Klara and the sun, it was a book club book some years ago.

Really liked the book.

Great exploration of love, humans vs robots and AI.

It would be nteresting to read now because the technology of AI has advanced considerably since this book was written and I read it .

Your library list looks great!

You are so right, it would be very timely to read Klara and the Sun right now. He raises so many relevant issues, not just about AI, but also about loneliness and friendship. I might read it again.

My reserve list is tiny compared to my TBR. Did you know you can tag books on the library app that you want to read?

Warm rice salad looks delicious.

Marg Moon's avatar

Thanks Marian. I guess warm rice salad doesn’t sound terribly appealing if you live in a hot place, but it’s quite cold where I live. We are in the depths of winter although the days are nice and sunny.

My friend, Ruth Marie Hamilton, lives in Griffith so I understand your climate! Enjoy your sunny days!

Griffith is a lovely place to live.
