Marg, you've brought back some great memories of that time. We all learnt so much from you and to this day, when I see a power point filled with text, I hear your words in my head. I still have a very basic presentation I developed to explain the new legislation. We didn't use it... it was more of a joke really, but it uses the principles of being simplistic, easy to understand, white space etc. It makes me laugh whenever I look at it. You set the bar high (thankfully), leading so many of us to strive for excellence. The lessons you taught us resonate today and the simplicity derived, has stood the test of time. I am truly blessed to have adopted as much of your wisdom in these areas as I could. Like Louise, I shudder when I see Powerpoint slides delivering encyclopaedic text that will NEVER be read or absorbed. This happens far too often these days :(-

When my husband went to Antarctica, one day was actually fairly warm, and he sat on the rocks on the beach to take in the warmth. I penguin came along and sat down right next to him. He will never forget that penguin.
We did similar things. I worked at Kodak for a time in the instructional design department as a media producer. There were always some sales reps who wanted to put one or two paragraphs on their slides. They couldn't be persuaded otherwise.
It would be wonderful to sit next to a penguin! I think you would really enjoy this movie because it's moving but not sentimental, and the social and political issues of the time make for an interesting setting.
Yes, we have many similarities in our lives. Instructional design is hard to explain to anyone, but so important. I really loved that period of my career because I learnt so many new things, but like you, I was disappointed that I wasn't more influential.
