I once heard the Misere sung by King's College Consort at a rehearsal in St Mary's Cathederal. It was spine tingling. The treble part was actually sung by a woman but it was magic.
I would love to join your BC but it would be my third BC and just another thing to do in an already overcrowded calendar.
Thanks so much Sally. I really appreciate the feedback. We used to watch the new episodes every Friday afternoon as soon as they were available. Now that the whole series is there it would be quite hard not to binge.
You & I have discussed this book previously I know but I really did enjoy it and like you, had to listen to the featured music - beautiful! It is a shame that most people I suggest it to are a bit squeamish about the subject matter. Well written and the sort of book I like - material that is true woven into the fictional.
So pleased you are finding uses for the flavoured oil.
You have never been squeamish about forensic details though :) I still remember you telling us disgusting things at the dinner table.
I read a review of the book in the Guardian that really slammed the author and said that she had used the story of Aberfan as a plot device and hadn't given enough respect to the grief and loss of those affected. Also that it talked about homophobia without saying it was wrong. It was a very strange review, given that it was just reflecting the attitudes of the time. A lot of books have been written about 9/11 using it as a plot device and I didn't hear anyone complaining. I read another review in the same newspaper which said it was excellent.
As usual you make me hungry for a new book and whatever dish you’re describing, Marg! I plan to get hold of an audio version of “A Terrible Kindness” and try out your ideas for fried broccoli, which sound delish (I love the idea of adding pine nuts!). It would be fun to be part of an international book group. Maybe we could share a few recipes too! 🤗

How lucky you were to hear the Misere in such a beautiful cathedral. Wonderful.
Oh thanks for the Bad Sisters. My husband and I began watching it last night. LOL.
Love to get your great recommendations in books, food and TV

After the wonderful way you’ve just described that book Marg , I’m heading out to get it today!
I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know either way. I'm always keen to know what people want to read and we all have different tastes.

Great idea. It could be a book club for readers and eaters.
Perfect!
