I think I might start a notebook for book recommendations instead of my usual: scratched on a bit of paper lurking near the computer and then thrown out because I can't remember what it is. So 1976, is the year we lived in London and the year my daughter was born so it is significant for me. Pity I didn't draw her in the family Secret Santa because that would have been a brilliant gift for her.
I have a list on my phone for when I’m in the library, a list on a piece of yellow paper on my desk and random jottings in the notebook next to my computer. It’s not a very good system but it works. I also take photos of covers in bookshops.
Marg, I'm so excited that you're going forward with the book club idea! I know it will stimulate my reading life--and maybe add to my recipe repertoire! I am a huge fan of Book Chat, as well as of Sinù's Dash of Prosecco and Gayla's SoNovelicious, so I second your shoutouts.
Having just returned from a long-delayed trip to Paris where lemon meringue tarts of all sizes were on display everywhere, I'm eager to give Emma's meringue and lemon curd a try. I've had some spectacular failures with meringue also, so thanks for inspiring me to try again!🍋💛
One of my worst cooking disasters was with lemon meringue tart. My kids say, remember the time mum made a tart so bitter we couldn’t eat it? I hope they remember some of my culinary successes as well. 🙂
Thank you so much for mentioning me Marg ❤️ I truly love Book Chat! Somehow I must have missed your last post (a bit of inbox overwhelm lately) but I gather that your book club idea is now a reality! Congratulations are in order!! 🎉
Thanks for the shoutout Marg. I'm so happy that more readers have discovered your newsletter. We have such a great bookish community on Substack.
I’m enjoying the community aspects of Substack so much. If we were in a room, we could talk about books and food all day.
I so agree!

I think your daughter would love this book too!

I can’t wait to hear about your Paris trip!
Thanks, Marg! I'm afraid we often remember the failures better than the successes. But they do make good writing material! 😅

The book club idea is coming along well, I think it will be fun.
It sure will!
