I’m glad you enjoyed the Columbus piece. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons--but of course I’m not alone in that! I look forward to catching up on some reading recommendations, including the selection for your June book club!
I had no idea that cenotaph wasn't commonly used in the States, how interesting.
For many years I attended Anzac services and heard the parade marshall shouting out orders to the catafalque party, but I always thought he was saying catapult. Turns out that the catafalque is the raised platform around the cenotaph and the catafalque party are the soldiers stand on it to guard the memorial.
Yes, I think you would love the book. It's really well written and it would be interesting for you to read about the refugee experience here in Australia. It's vaguely reminiscent of Celeste Ng.
Marg, thanks so much for the shout out; I appreciate it. The Food Podcast is one of the best podcasts I've listened to and I listen to plenty. I'm learning so much about creating "story" from listening to the episodes. I can't wait until I have more time to listen to more and maybe put some of the ideas I'm learning into practice through my newsletter. I enjoy your newsletter and smile when I see it land in my inbox. :)
Thanks, Marg! I enjoy Gayla’s newsletter and heartily recommend it also. I’ll take all the book recommendations I can get as I’m always looking for diversion. Thanks for the podcast recommendation and the Anzac recipe too. Happy Autumn! It’s a kick to think you celebrate fall as we welcome spring here! I’d love to visit your country in person one day, but meanwhile it’s nice to get a glimpse virtually!😊
Ditto! It's weird being in a different season but I Autumn and Spring are both gorgeous. Your new post about Ohio is very interesting. I enjoyed it a lot.

The book sounds fantastic. And you sometimes use words this American doesn’t know, like cenotaph, lol. I had to look it up! Love that.

Thanks Gayla. I love your newsletter and agree that there’s always more to learn about storytelling.
