I read Heavy. It is indeed very hard going. I’m glad I did because living in the US I feel these are the kinds of stories that have been typically silenced and that I’ve been unaware of. That said, this one can be especially bleak.

I’ve been thinking about your comment because I don’t know if I will read Heavy but I do think we should read books that stretch our understanding of the world.

Yes, I would totally get it if you don't read it. I think we need to choose carefully, and for negative or difficult stories to be careful not to get overwhelmed - that doesn't do any of us any good.

Marg, thx for your update on your reading list. Another one to check out. I enjoy corn fritters and they can handle many various sorts of toppings as well.

Yes, that's absolutely true. Great with avocado and sour cream and many yummy sides.

Thanks for another enjoyable edition of Book Chat, Marg! “Stealing” does sound challenging for the subject matter, but while sometimes I just want escape reading, at other times I want something more substantial, so I’m adding this to my TBR list.

Since the film “Oppenheimer” is making such waves here, I thought I’d listen to the book on which it’s based, “American Prometheus,” about the complicated life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the brilliant and troubled physicist behind the invention of the atom bomb. It’s both fascinating and troubling--but very engaging, though many hours (and pages!). It gets me through some long walks! Hope to see the movie too.

Corn fritters sound so delicious. There’s a lot of fresh summer corn in the market right now, so I may just give this recipe a try!

Stealing is sad in places, but I came out of it full of admiration for the author and her young protagonist. I really enjoyed it.

I haven’t seen Oppenheimer yet, but it looks interesting.

Good luck with the corn fritters. They’re nice with a bit of halloumi or you can add some grated zucchini.
