I am all for made-up savory dishes and this one looks delicious and easy. Wonderful! Thx for the upcoming Book Club news Marg and look forward to seeing everyone in early May, a delightful month.

I'm conscious that it doesn't really qualify as a recipe, but sometimes I need inspiration so I thought others might feel the same.

I'm really looking forward to our next book club meeting too. It seems ages away, but I thought people might need a bit of time to get hold of the book. We have about eight copies at our library but that doesn't mean it's widely available everywhere. It was shortlisted for the Booker last year so it should be relatively easy to find. I hope so!

I just made this comment about readable and relatively unchallenging books to someone yesterday. I gave her a "train" book (to read while she crosses the Nullarbor on the Indian Pacific) and she thought it was about trains!! I am reading Sally Hepworth's Darling Girls at the moment which fits the bill. I don't think I would want to stay 13 though - maybe 11 or 12. As I recall, I was quite anxious to grow up at that age but it was a pretty sweet spot between being a child and an adult.

Perhaps you should have given her Murder on the Orient Express (ha ha). Yes, bring on books that can be read on trains and planes. I love them. It's the only thing I miss about commuting. I've reserved a whole stack of books for my next trip, but I can see that I'm way down the list, so I suspect they won't become available in time. Once I took three books on a trip and they were all terrible. It was very stressful. Sally Hepworth certainly churns out a lot of books, but they are usually reliable.

I hated being thirteen. It was awful. But I love the idea of maintaining a sense of wonder about the world and not becoming too old and cynical.

Wow I recognize that book!

The worst thing happens when people are stressed and can’t read and then they are even more stressed about the fact that they are not reading enough/reaching their yearly goal. That’s why I am always trying to be gentle with myself 😊

I couldn't agree more. I don't have a yearly goal, but if I did, I would read children's books to fill my quota. And maybe some YA and novellas. Reading should be for pleasure (unless you are studying).

Thanks, Margaret-- I will be trying the chicken stew and How to Build a Boat.

I hope you like the book. I think you might!

I know I will like the book club discussion, and I hope to attend!

Comfort books and comfort food go together. Thanks for providing both, Marg!

Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be able to attend the next book club as May 3 is my birthday (a big one!) and we’ll be traveling overseas to celebrate. The book sounds great though!🤗

A big birthday, how exciting! I hope you have a wonderful trip to celebrate. If you get a chance to read the book, do let me know what you think.

Thanks again for the re-stack. Your support is very much appreciated. I loved your chilli piece!

Me too!

I’m sure I will read the book and will let you know what I think, Marg. As you may have gathered, I often follow your reading recommendations. So glad you liked the chili piece. I do like one-pot meals, especially when they can be stretched a few days (I’m a lazy cook, I guess!). Your chicken dish sounds like it might fill the bill too!🍗

I try to make everything stretch to two days. It's tedious having to think of something for dinner every day.

No kidding—especially for a fussy hubby!😆
