Everyone should read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and everything by Kate DiCamillo for that matter! I read it aloud to my toddler years ago and we're certainly due for a re-reading now that said toddler is six! I can't wait to read your other recc - McTavish Goes Wild! What a cute concept.

Yes, I agree that all of DiCamillo’s books are wonderful. Another favourite I didn’t mention (but should have) is The Tiger Who Came To Tea. Have you read that one? It’s probably too young for your six year old. What is their favourite book?

Marg, I’m with you in needing an escape from the news—even when sometimes it seems to be trending more hopeful for a day or two. Thanks for the reminder about the enjoyment and escape that many children’s books provide and for the suggested titles. When I find time to attend a kid lit group I’m part of (along with Moira) my spirits are always lifted. Only recently while working with an ESL student, I finally started reading and enjoying the Harry Potter series.

Thanks also for the oat biscuit recipe. It sounds delicious enough to enjoy, even in summer!

Yes, there seems to be so much vitriol in the news. I find it hard to deal with.

I used to be in a kid lit book club and I really enjoyed it too. I didn't know you worked with ESL students - I was just talking to someone yesterday about doing that myself. What a great thing to do, AND you get to read Harry Potter.
