Yes I agree with you post should be yes I agree with you, everyone should be able to enjoy reading and writing, sharing ideas etc free!

Yes learning and sharing should be available to everyone! You can go pay and post for everyone, yet you let open the window for those that can afford to subscribe. You can say what is the point to go to paid subscribers if they are not going to have extra attention? Those who appreciate your writing and can afford it know that their paid subscription is an incentive for you to continue writing.

I have added a hard copy of the book Scientific Discoveries or a designed Tshirt in the foundation subscription. Although we have few free subscribers, last week we had the nice surprise of the first person!!! It did made my day!!! On the process Substack has their 10%, Stripe from 3 to 5 % plus exchange rate depending if you can received the payments directly in the currency from the subscribers, 500 subscribers at 80 is 40.000 minus 20% is 32.000 a year.. 🤔 Nevertheless we have only 1 paid subscriber 😂.. We can only work from home for serious health reasons

Hi Orli - thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful response. I appreciate that everyone has different circumstances as well as different motivations for wanting paid subscribers. I'm happy with my decision not to go down that track and as you say, everyone wants to take a cut of the money.

You are welcome, nevertheless this is not so simple, Marg this is not exactly what I mean, not everyone has a stable income, or income at all, many can be careers, even not everyone may have a benefit from the government, or a pension. Sadly we all have to cover at least basic needs, although some people maybe using AI for their work, not everyone does it means that there is no time left to do other work. On the other hand I do not know how many people is working is substack, and they are not doing it for free, of course is business but again the platform is not free to maintain and create, if substack does not get some reasonable income it cannot exist, and you will not be able to be here, no I either! Is all complicated, but there is something that is not, we need to cover our heads with a roof and to eat healthy at least, that without counting holidays! sometimes we do not realize that no everyone is on the same world even if we think we are! .. ..of course this is my humble opinion..

I loved Behold the Dteamers!

I totally agree with those 2 books recommendations. I'd also add Pigeon English about a Ghanian boy struggling with the English language in an ugly English tower block. Sad but has stayed with me.

ps my dahlia is shooting - I hope it flowers!

I’m so happy you mentioned Pigeon English. I was originally planning to include it, but I mysteriously forgot all about it. It fits so nicely with the other two and is a great, if heartbreaking, read.

I’m excited your dahlia is shooting. Please keep me informed of progress 😀

As always, it's interesting to see the fruits of the reversed seasons in Australia--tomatoes and flowers when we're talking pumpkins and cranberries. Hoping to join you for the book club chat if I can get the time straight.
